This is a primary requirement for developers or proponents of all new projects which are likely to interact with the environment. Projects are put through the process to assess whether they are likely to have an impact on environment, social, economic, safety, health and welfare issues for project affected persons (PAPs). Such studies are consultative, multisector and involve wide scopes of expertise and experiences including members of communities and neighborhoods to arrive at a final decision, which is made by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).
EIA Study Reports must contain at least the following information:
- Objective of the project
- Description of the project site
- Identification and description of potential significant adverse environmental impacts and safety risks of the project
- Propose mitigation measures for the potential significant adverse environmental impacts and safety risks
- Recommendations and conclusions.
- A proposed management plan with safeguards for all aspects identified during the assessment.
- A safeguards implementation monitoring and reporting plan for environment and social impacts of the proposed development
The company targets proponents and lead agencies of such projects as above to conduct Environmental Impact Assessments for them.
